Frequently Asked Questions

How does the word counter work?

Paste or type your text in the text area and the counter instantly analyzes the content. It calculates words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, paragraphs, reading time and speaking time. Everything happens in the browser — no data is sent to external servers.

What is the average reading speed?

The average adult reading speed is about 200-250 words per minute for general text. For technical content, it drops to 150-200 words per minute. Our calculator uses 225 words per minute as a standard reference.

How many words should a blog post have?

For SEO, an effective blog post should have at least 1,000-1,500 words. Pillar articles or comprehensive guides can exceed 2,500-3,000 words. Social posts: 40-80 words. Marketing emails: 150-300 words. Landing pages: 500-1,000 words.

How are top keywords extracted?

The tool analyzes the frequency of each word in the text, excluding common stopwords (articles, prepositions, conjunctions). The most frequent words are displayed as top keywords with their respective count. This helps verify keyword density for SEO purposes.

Does the counter work with any language?

Yes, the word and character counter works with any language that uses spaces to separate words, including English, Italian, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese. For languages like Chinese or Japanese, word count may not be accurate, but characters and sentences work correctly.

Can I set a character limit?

Yes, you can set a maximum character limit. The counter will show in real time how many characters you have used and how many remain. Useful for tweets (280 characters), meta descriptions (155 characters), SEO titles (60 characters) and more.

What is the Flesch Reading Ease score?

Flesch Reading Ease is a readability index from 0 to 100. Higher scores mean easier text. 90-100 = very easy (5th grade), 60-70 = standard, 30-50 = difficult (college), below 30 = very difficult. For web content, aim for 60+.

What is the Gunning Fog Index?

The Gunning Fog Index estimates the years of education needed to understand a text. 6 = an 11-year-old could read it, 12 = high school senior, above 17 = academic level. For general audiences, aim for 7-12.
